We are currently seeking to hire rangeland ecologists, habitat biologists, and vegetation specialists to conduct natural resource field surveys and support project managers and field leads with data analysis and reporting duties as needed. The position is full time with a preference to be based in Sheridan, Wyoming or Bismarck, North Dakota, however other locations may be negotiable. Willingness to travel and work remotely, possibly working solo, is required.

Projects and duties include:

  • Conduct field surveys, following established survey protocols for wildlife habitat, vegetation, and wetlands, along with conducting environmental inspections and reclamation monitoring.
  • Use Geospatial Positioning Units (GPS), digital data forms or app based forms, and hard copy data forms to collect data.
  • Work with other field staff, under the supervision of field leads or project managers, in the performance of field work.
  • Assist field lead or project managers with data entry, quality assurance, analysis, and summarization to meet protocol and regulatory requirements.


Applicants must have:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in range management, natural resource ecology, biology, botany, or applicable field.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in natural resource field work preferred.
  • Preferred experience working in the Northern Great Plains, Rocky Mountains, and Intermountain West, including identification of fauna, flora, ecological assemblages, wetlands, and soils.
  • Familiarity with Word, Excel, and Geospatial Information Systems (GIS).
  • Ability to travel and work remotely, possibly solo, in inclement weather conditions.
  • A positive attitude and ability to work well as part of a team.
  • A valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Have experience driving 4x4 pickup trucks, ATVs, and UTVs
