Assistant/Associate Professor of Animal Science - Livestock Production

The School of Agricultural Sciences & Forestry at Louisiana Tech University seeks a full-time, nine-month tenure-track Animal Science Assistant or Associate Professor with an emphasis on livestock production or related specialty (animal nutrition, reproduction, etc.). The position is 70% teaching, 20% service, and 10% research (percentages may be negotiated depending on successful candidate’s strengths). The successful candidate will join the ranks of a robust animal science program that thoroughly prepares students for professional careers and graduate study in animal science and veterinary medicine. The School of Agricultural Sciences & Forestry is home to 18 faculty and 9 staff serving approximately 400 students in Agricultural Business, Agricultural Education, Animal Science, Forestry, and Geographic Information Science degree programs. Our B.S. Animal Science degree program with concentrations in Pre-Veterinary Medicine and Applied Animal Science is highly regarded for providing students with strong academic and professional development, with graduates being well prepared for employment or graduate school or professional programs following graduation. Experiential education and research opportunities are enhanced by access to 1,150-acre Tech Farm and its animal units (beef cattle herd, equine herd, sheep flock, swine herd), as well as a comprehensive meats processing facility and laboratory. Louisiana Tech values excellent teaching and places a high priority on impactful student learning and applied research.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching a variety of animal science courses at the undergraduate level, and may teach elective courses at the graduate level as needed. Teaching assignments will focus primarily on animal production, and may include livestock, equine and poultry production, nutrition, reproduction and other courses as needed. The successful applicant will have academic advising, student recruitment, and course development responsibilities, and will advise student clubs and organizations. Agricultural Sciences faculty members support youth agricultural organization activities such as FFA and 4-H. The individual hired to fill this position will have the opportunity to establish an applied research program, and engage with equine and livestock farm managers, industry professionals, and relevant professional organizations at local, state, and regional levels. Participation in departmental, college, or university committees is a shared responsibility of all Louisiana Tech University faculty members.

QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in Animal Science or related field pertaining to food animal and/or equine science; DVM with agricultural animal experience will be considered. PhD candidates that have completed their dissertation defense (ABD) with a documented plan of completion by the appointment date will be considered. The successful candidate will exhibit effective teaching, communication, and interpersonal skills, and will demonstrate the capacity to work productively and collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, peers, and administrators. Must meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time of appointment.
