A field research aide position is available in the Norris Lab within the Department of Natural Resources Management at Texas Tech University (Lubbock, TX). The successful candidate will assist with assessing the viability of using treated produced water as an alternative water source for regional forage crops, with evaluations being performed in greenhouse and field settings. The research will focus on assessing the impact of treated produced water from oil and gas production on forage production, soil health, and nutritive value.
Main Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
- Plant, maintain, and harvest forage pots/plots in greenhouse and field conditions.
- Monthly soil core collection using tractor mounted probe.
- Assist with carrying out plant measurements and sample analyses.
- Transportation of equipment (tractor, seed drill, harvester, etc.) to and from research site(s).
- Ability to work independently and as a team member, manage research logistics, and supervise field/lab personnel.
- Detail oriented and able to maintain records.
Required Qualifications:
- B.S. in Animal Science, Crop Science, Botany, Natural Resources, Range Science, or closely related discipline
- Valid U.S. driver’s license.
- Able to lift 50 pounds.
- Drive trucks with loaded trailer - Regular travel to field site(s).
- Operate tractors and various implements.
- Hard working and driven individual.
- Willingness to learn.
- Capacity to do field work in a hot, arid region.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
