Teaching Assistant Professor, Veterinary and Agriculture Sciences

The College of Agriculture, Biotechnology, and Natural Resources at the University of Nevada, Reno, is excited to announce a unique opportunity for a Teaching Assistant Professor in the Department of Agriculture, Rangeland, and Veterinary Sciences (ARVS). This position focuses on teaching, mentoring and retention of undergraduates in the Veterinary Science and Animal Agriculture majors.

 

The AVRS Department at the University of Nevada, Reno, is seeking a dynamic individual to teach courses and mentor students in the veterinary science program. This is a non-tenure track position. The position is structured as 75% teaching, 10% program assessments and 15% service as faculty mentor/advisor and undergraduate retention for the veterinary science major. In addition, this position will be responsible for leading and coordinating the CABNRFit freshmen orientation program at the beginning of the school year. Teaching responsibilities include serving as instructor for the Diseases of Domestic Animals and Parasitology courses and for the development and instruction of an additional biomedical related (i.e., veterinary physiology, toxicology, endocrinology) course.  The candidate must possess the ability to develop innovative teaching programs. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate and contribute to interdisciplinary activities within the Veterinary Science and Animal Agriculture programs.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Teaching Assistant Professor - Ph.D. in Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VMD) from an AVMA Accredited Institution or Ph.D. in Animal Science or a closely related field.
  • Applicants should have a demonstrated potential for effectiveness in teaching including a strong desire to work with and mentor undergraduate students interested in careers in animal health and welfare; excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary department of professionals; and excellent oral and written communication skills.
