Extension Specialist/Assistant Professor of Rangeland Ecology and Management

The University of Wyoming (UW) seeks to hire an Assistant Professor/Extension Specialist on an eleven-month appointment. The tenure-track hire will be housed in the Department of Ecosystem Science and Management (ESM) within the College of Agriculture, Life Sciences, and Natural Resources. We seek a colleague with expertise in rangeland ecology and management, as well as experience working with stakeholders and mentoring graduate and/or undergraduate students. The successful candidate will join colleagues in ESM that integrate rangeland ecology, watershed management, soil science, forest management, restoration ecology and entomology as well as interact with colleagues working in agriculture, life sciences and natural resources across the College.

The position responsibilities will be split between extension, research and service. Wyoming is a state characterized by expansive rangelands and rich natural resources. The incumbent is expected to develop a successful, externally funded research and extension program focused on rangeland management including grazing/herbivory and/or rangeland health, publish peer-reviewed publications, mentor graduate students and perform appropriate service activities for the University, State, and the faculty’s professional field.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ph.D. at the time of hire in a discipline focused on rangeland management and/or rangeland ecology
  • Evidence of research productivity in the form of peer-reviewed journal publications

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Evidence of experience collaborating with extension educators, private landowners, federal and state agencies and/or special interest groups to address complex management problems
  • Evidence of experience in rangeland extension and/or outreach
  • Evidence of success at obtaining grant funding
  • Evidence of experience mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate research
  • Postdoctoral experience
  • Evidence of excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with Wyoming rangeland vegetation and plant communities
