The Department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management (NREM) at Oklahoma State University invites applications for a full-time, eleven-month, tenure-track position (40% teaching and 60% research) in rangeland ecology and management. As OSU is a Land Grant university, the instructional appointment is within the Ferguson College of Agriculture and the research appointment is within the Oklahoma Agricultural Experiment Station.
We seek a candidate with abilities and expertise to provide leadership related to the Rangeland Ecology and Management undergraduate option within the NREM department. Teaching responsibilities include rangeland-related undergraduate and graduate courses. The selected faculty member may also teach additional courses in areas of curricular need and faculty expertise. The faculty member in this position will also advise the undergraduate range club during the school year and coach students in competitions at the Society for Range Management (SRM) Annual meeting.
Additionally, the candidate will be expected to establish an externally funded research program focused on topics related to rangeland ecology and management, and may include identification of ecosystem services, reducing impacts of invasive species, improving livestock grazing management, enhancing wildlife habitat and conservation, rangeland/grassland biodiversity, or related areas.
The department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management is comprised of 22 faculty with expertise in aquatic, fisheries, forest, rangeland, and wildlife resources, and 5 administrative support staff. NREM faculty provide mentorship to approximately 60 master’s and doctoral graduate students, and we serve approximately 240 undergraduate students. The Department is also the administrative home of the Oklahoma Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit. The candidate will be expected to serve on departmental, college, and university committees, including serving as the rangeland representative on the departmental curriculum committee.
Qualifications:
Qualifications include: 1) A PhD in rangeland ecology/management or a related field from an accredited university is required, and BS and MS degrees in related areas, 2) Evidence of effective teaching skills and strong interest in instruction and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students, 3) demonstrated interest and ability to seek and secure extramural funding to support research, and 4) ability and desire to work collaboratively with NREM faculty, faculty in other departments or universities to address teaching and research goals.
