Jessica Orozco Memorial Honorarium

SRM Provides a unique funding opportunity for students to attend the Annual Meeting in Spokane on Feb. 9-13, 2025.

The Jessica Orozco Memorial Honorarium pays for an Undergraduate or Graduate student’s travel and lodging for the conference with a maximum reimbursable amount of $1,500.

The selected individual(s) will be able to advance their career opportunities by networking with future colleagues, participating in professional development and natural resources workshops, and attending a job fair.

SRM established the Jessica Orozco Memorial Fund in January 2019.  In 2023, Magic Valley Energy, an affiliate of leading energy company LS Power, donated to fully fund the honorarium.  MVE is currently proposing two wind energy projects in Southern Idaho.

Through this honorarium, we honor our colleague, Jessica Orozco, who was passionate about introducing Native American youth to the SRM and to the art and science of range management. Orozco was a Range Specialist with the Hualapai Natural Resources Department and utilized the SRM Annual Meeting as a venue to introduce Indigenous youth to the resources available to advance their communities and careers.

This honorarium is open to Native American and Alaska Native students and requires a resume, letter of recommendation, and a two-page, 12-pt font, essay on their career aspirations. The application deadline is 1 September 2024 and selections will be made by 1 November 2024. Honorarium applications should be sent to operations@rangelands.org.
