About The Position
The Project Coordinator will support the Mule Deer Foundation's Private Lands Conservation Program by assisting with the implementation of voluntary conservation projects across the Great Plains. Working under the direction of the Program Manager (Grazing & Working Lands), this position will work directly with private landowners, ranchers, and conservation partners to improve working lands while enhancing wildlife habitat.
Primary Responsibilities
Assist with implementing conservation projects throughout the Great Plains service area.
Conduct outreach to identify, recruit, and enroll eligible private landowners and ranchers.
Work with landowners to evaluate grazing systems and develop practical grazing management plans.
Promote adaptive and regenerative grazing practices that improve rangeland health, livestock production, soil health, water resources, and wildlife habitat.
Coordinate conservation project planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting.
Collaborate with NRCS staff and conservation partners to integrate Farm Bill programs (EQIP, CSP, ACEP) and other available resources.
Maintain project records, track expenditures, accomplishments, and grant activities, and support grant reporting.
Conduct vegetation monitoring, ecological site evaluations, rangeland inventories, and other field assessments.
Utilize GPS, GIS, ArcGIS, OnX, Google Earth, and related mapping technologies for project planning and implementation.
Verify conservation practice implementation, document project outcomes, and identify solutions to implementation challenges.
Represent MDF at meetings, workshops, producer events, and field tours while building strong relationships with landowners, agencies, and conservation partners.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in rangeland management, natural resources, wildlife biology, ecology, agricultural sciences, or a related field.
Two or more years of experience in conservation, grazing management, ranch management, or a related natural resources field.
Experience developing grazing management plans and working directly with private landowners and agricultural producers.
Strong organizational, project management, communication, and technical writing skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently in a remote environment, and collaborate effectively with partners.
Experience with NRCS conservation planning, Farm Bill programs, regenerative grazing systems or multi-partner conservation projects is preferred.
Remote position requires regional travel, including overnight travel and occasional weekend work, supporting conservation efforts across a large geographic service area.
