Tanner Honored by Society for Range Management with Outstanding Young Professional Award

MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA – Dr. Evan P. Tanner received the Outstanding Young Professional Award at the Society for Range Management’s 79th Annual Meeting in Monterey, California last month. The Award is presented by the Society to an individual member or couple who have demonstrated extraordinary potential and promise as range management professionals.  This award is presented as an encouragement for outstanding performance by young men and women entering the profession of range management.

Dr. Tanner, a faculty member at the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute at Texas A&M University Kingsville, is admired for the personal qualities that define his approach to science and education: integrity, empathy, and a commitment to people. Students and colleagues describe him as a mentor who leads with care and creates supportive environments where individuals are encouraged to grow, collaborate, and succeed. 

In the classroom, Dr. Tanner is an engaging and thoughtful educator whose enthusiasm inspires learners at all levels. He is generous with his time and deeply invested in helping students navigate challenges and discover their potential. His mentorship extends beyond his own lab, reaching students and early-career professionals across departments and institutions. 

Dr. Tanner’s service to SRM further reflects his values-driven leadership. As current Chair of the SRM Diversity & Inclusion Committee, he has led with humility and vision, fostering inclusive spaces, amplifying diverse voices, and turning ideas into meaningful action. 

For the tremendous contributions to the science and management of rangeland ecosystems he has made, it is with great honor the Society of Range Management recognized Dr. Evan Tanner with the Outstanding Young Professional Award.
