The Utah Section of the Society for Range Management originated in 1949 in Salt Lake City, with 22 members present. Members included land managers, scientists, educators, and a single rancher.

Today, the section has about 200 members representing the same demographic. We work toward a mission of providing leadership for the stewardship of rangelands based on sound ecological principles, with a vision of a well-trained and highly motivated group of professionals and rangeland users working with productive, sustainable rangeland ecosystems. The section meets twice a year; at the fall annual meeting for scientific information exchange and student contests, and at the summer tour to view practical applications of rangeland management on location. We provide opportunities for high school and college students to learn the principles of rangeland management through Range Camp, scholarships, contests, and the chance to attend the International Society for Range Management annual meeting.
