Lead Biologist (Wildlife and Rangelands)

Nexus Environmental Consultants is seeking an experienced Biological Lead for work in Northern Nevada. Duties would include, but not be limited to, assisting with Project management, conducting biological surveys, leading biological survey teams, and preparing technical documents. Other tasks may be included based on workload.

Work Duties

  • Managing and leading field teams for biological surveys and coordinating with State and Federal agencies.
  • Leading and conducting surveys for wildlife including, but not limited to, pygmy rabbits, western burrowing owl, migratory birds, raptors, springsnails, small mammals, acoustic bat surveys, greater sage-grouse lek surveys, etc.
  • Leading and conducting surveys for vegetation including, but not limited to, vegetation community mapping, noxious/invasive weed surveys, special status plant surveys, etc.
  • Leading and conducting surveys for water resources including, but not limited to, waters of the United States surveys, wetland delineations, collecting water quality samples, measuring seep and stream flow, documenting field parameters, and recording field conditions.
  • Preparing technical documents including, but not limited to, biological work plans, survey results reports, and biological specialist reports for NEPA documents.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, natural resources, or related field required.

Travel up to 50% required.

Overnight stay including camping required.

Previous experience leading field teams required.

Previous experience conducting aerial raptor surveys required.

Ability to work in remote, rural conditions required.

Ability to work independently and with others required.

Ability to hike for extended periods of time (up to 10 miles per day) required.

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs required.

Ability to work remotely and stay motivated and on task required.

Commitment to safety and Nexus safety protocols and standards required.

Previous Project Management experience a plus.

Experience authoring NEPA sections and/or specialist reports a plus.

Work would be located primarily in northern Nevada with the potential for some work or meetings in other states, as needed.
