Happy New Year from the Society for Range Management

Happy Holidays to all our great Society for Range Management members!

We want to take a moment to offer our sincere gratitude for your generous support and passionate commitment to SRM and rangeland management this past year. Whether you are a long-time supporter or recent addition to the SRM family, it is through all your efforts and dedication that have allowed rangelands to prevail and for our organization to make a difference.

In 2019, we pledged special emphasis on our SRM Section goals and objectives, as well as their upstanding achievements. You’ll hear more about the incredible work being done in the countryside this past year in the months ahead, and we want to commend the tremendous efforts and initiative that Section leadership has taken on this past year.

We would be remiss if we didn’t share a few of the examples that have been brought to our attention and which have reinforced our sincere gratitude for the leadership our Sections consistently demonstrate– Case in point, the Nevada Section set a goal of engaging more producers and recently informed the us they have involved almost 30 additional producers this past year. Similarly, the Arizona Section has appointed a liaison to their state Cattlegrower’s Association (CA), and hosts a well attended workshop and booth at their CA Annual Convention for multiple years running. The PNW Section introduced a Young Professionals Conclave Liaison to the Parent Society Conclave, and also hosted a member of the Parent Society YPC at the Section’s Annual Meeting this year. Finally, the Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming Sections hosted a very successful joint “Free-Roaming Equids Summit” in conjunction with multiple partners.

We’d love to share examples from EVERY Section— but it would take up far too much space in this newsletter. Please know that this is merely a SNAPSHOT of the many difference-makers that we are fortunate to have within SRM. We’re eager to continue the momentum we started with “Year of the Section” and look forward to continuing our focus in empowering each Section to grow and build on their successes (see Director Goodwin’s article below on the subject).

We have a lot in store for us in the year ahead— and we’re eager to have you continue with us along the way. We welcome all new members of the Society and we are grateful to welcome members who have come back after an absence. We offer a great thank you to our long time members that  have reminded us of the pride of being a member of this profound organization—  All of you make up the greatest group of people that call rangelands home.  Have a safe and happy Holiday Season.
