Scholarships

The Society for Range Management (SRM) Masonic-Range Science Scholarship offers financial assistance and recognition to a high school senior, college freshman or college sophomore planning to major in/presently majoring in range science and/or closely related field. The recipient of the scholarship must be planning to attend or be currently in attendance at a college or university with a range science program.

Applicants must be sponsored by a member of the Society for Range Management (SRM), the National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD), or the Soil and Water Conservation Society (SWCS). The scholarship is awarded by the Masonic-Range Science Scholarship Committee (MasCom), which is a subcommittee of the SRM Student Activities Committee.

Applications for the award will be accepted beginning December 1st.

Completed application packets are due by April 1. (note new deadline)

Applications must be postmarked by the deadline.

The following materials must be submitted together when applying:

  1. The completed application form (fillable pdf / pdf)
    Special Note: If using a public computer, please clear the form before closing your browser.
  2. A copy of your high school transcripts; (If applicable, also attach a copy of your college transcript.)
  3. A certified copy of your SAT or ACT scores (even if a college student) – (Also acceptable if included on your official HS transcript); and
  4. Two (2) letters of reference from teachers, county agents, employers, etc., who might have insight as to your qualifications

Applications received without the accompanying materials cannot be considered.

Frequently Asked Questions

When are applications open?
Applications are opened Dec. 1st of each year and due by April 1st.

Can an applicant re-apply if they are not selected?
A person can continue to apply as long as they meet the requirements of a graduating high school senior or a college freshman or sophomore.

Do transcripts have to be Official, and if so, what qualifies as Official?
Transcripts must be Official. (They must bear the seal/stamp and/or signature of the issuing school or university)

What is a “certified” copy of test scores?
They should be one of three types: 1) the original document (colored form), 2) a copy certified by a school official, or 3) included on the High School transcript (most common method).

How does a Home Schooled student apply if they don’t have transcripts, ACT score report, etc.?
Home school students must submit whatever is approved by their state education authority. They are eligible to take the ACT/SAT and MUST do so in order to apply.

If currently in college, must applicant still supply HS Transcript (Official or Un-official)?
College-level applicants are also required to submit an Official High School transcript. It helps the evaluators appraise the applicant’s high school performance.

How many winners and when/where will it be announced?
One new award is made per year. The announcement is made in April, following ranking of the applications received.

Will non-winners be notified?
Non-winners will be notified, by email, from the Committee Co-Chair soon after the recipient has been selected and notified.

How long is the scholarship for?
Up to a maximum of 8 semesters, if awarded to an incoming Freshman. Number of semesters is reduced accordingly if awarded to a current college freshman or sophomore.

How much is the award?

The scholarship amount is currently $5,000, divided equally to reflect the number of college semesters remaining in the recipient’s undergraduate degree.

What if applicant doesn’t know anyone from one of the Sponsor Groups?
The applicant, parent or school official can call either a committee member or SRM Headquarters. We can usually put them in touch with with a local SRM, NACD or SWCS member.

What is required of the Applicant’s Sponsor?
Their signature on the application. The sponsor should also offer to review the application for the individual and offer constructive comments on the submission.
